Curator Christian L. Frock of SF/Arts Reviews Dialogues in Drawing

Dialogues in Drawing is inspired by the struggles and victories of women artists living and working through social turbulence, contested identity politics and dramatic political change. Artists in the show are Damali Abrams, ruby onyinyechi amanze, Amy Cutler, Donna Dennis, Torkwase Dyson, Anna Gudmunsdottir, Kenyatta A. C. Hinkle, Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014), Alison Saar, Ebony G. Patterson, Adrian Piper, Tracey Rose, Simone Shubuck, Shinique Smith, Saya Woolfalk, Sam Vernon. Reception for the artists on Thursday, March 16, 5:30 to 7:30 pm with a conversation with the artists in attendance at 6:30 pm.

Through a wide range of works, this group exhibition explores the “struggles and victories” of women artists in times of deeply contested identity politics, political upheaval and social turbulence. The roster takes no prisoners and includes work by an incredible array of artists, including Amy Cutler, Kenyatta A. C. Hinkle, Alison Saar, Adrian Piper and Shinique Smith, among many others.
